==============================================
Tidus: What're you doing?
Firion: Nothing, just my wild rose...
Firion: "That's right, at that time..."
Firion: "...my enemy managed to take one of them."
Tidus: What do you mean "wild rose?" What is it?
Firion: Time to end our break. Let's move out.
Tidus: Fine then.
Tidus: I'll settle with my old man, find the crystals, and then I'll get that info out of you.
Firion: How greedy of you, Tidus.
Tidus: Firion! What is your goal in life?
Firion: My goal?
Tidus: What do you want to be? The best swordsman in the world? Or do you just want to defeat that guy?
Tidus: My goal is to finish the path I'm on, just like Cloud and Cecil are doing!
Tidus: You never talk about it, so I thought you were already committed to one.
Firion: For right now, it's simply to end this war. Not much more to think about.
Tidus: How unexpectedly diligent of you...
Firion: Calling it "unexpected" going too far.
Tidus: At a time like this, having guts and drive is what it's all about!
------------------
(Just some Board text)
Firion: However, if we have this many opponents blocking our path to the end of the war, it's a little disheartening...
Tidus: Don't worry about the number of opponents! Set your eyes on the goal, and it'll be fine!
Firion: I suppose. So long as you're making progress on the right path though.
---------------
(This is a flashback. How can you tell? Because everything is sepia toned!)
Warrior: These roses....
Firion: I'm not sure... when I woke up, they were simply here. Cosmos, what are they?
Cosmos: I am also not certain.... but, I sense a mysterious power within them.
Cosmos: However, I cannot understand it clearly. As though, a great deal of time has past....
Firion: ....Wild roses. Why does that have a familiar echo....
(You might be picking up on the amnesia plot point about now. Don’t worry, it'll be explained)
------------------
Garland: So the thought is starting to take root. Were those flowers your doing?
Garland: Wherever you learned that trick, you know full well you're never going back.
Golbez: It is useless to look back on such far-gone times - if we are to carve out a place in this new era that is.
Garland: But will this help in the future?
Golbez: Here.... this is how.......
(And everyone is now required to think about Golbez tending to flowers)
-----------------------
(So, just like in Tidus' storyline, this is where they split up for a bit)
Firion: There are a lot of enemies... Tidus, let's divide them up.
Tidus: Fine! I'll catch up with you later!
Firion: Perhaps I should follow his example and be more carefree.
--------------------------
Firion: (Hmmm, this place is dangerous. Was it a mistake for the two of us to separate?)
Firion: (I hope that Tidus is safe)
-------------------------
Firion: Now everything is in order.
Firion: Tidus! Where are you?
Jecht: That kid sure is a lively one.
Firion: You.... you're Tidus' father. What've you done with Tidus?
Jecht: I didn't do anything. He's fighting that guy now, pretty meaningless if you ask me.
Firion: All Tidus wants is to settle things with you, so why did you run instead of fight?
Jecht: That joke's not funny.
Jecht: All of these set-backs have got me in a bad mood. So maybe I need someone to take it out on!
-------------
Jecht: We're not done yet. Come here, let's go again!
Firion: I won't fight you.
Jecht: Ah? Why's that?
Firion: You know why I stay my hand.
Firion: You and I know that in this war I am not your true opponent, Tidus is!
Firion: I only acted as his proxy this once. Why did you deny him the resolution he seeks!
Jecht: You've got a smart mouth, sport.*
*(He actually calls Firion "Chickie" which is usually a female term of endearment in English, so I switched it for a more masculine term)
Jecht: However, you touched on some painful stuff.
Firion: Where are you going!
Jecht: To see where the road takes me. Probably back to that meddling someone.
Jecht: Of course, when it comes time to settle things, having guts and drive will be what it's all about!
Tidus: Firion! Are you okay?
Firion: I see. Like father... like son...
--------------
(and this is Board text from after the fight)
Tidus: So.... you fought my old man? What happened?
Firion: It was in my favor, though he said some odd things. For a moment, I almost forgot that he was aligned with Chaos.
Tidus: I see.
Firion: Are you okay? You're not too tense or injured, are you? There are a lot of enemies here.
Tidus: Don't worry about me. I am.... absolutely fine!
---------------------
(More Board text)
Firion: Hey, Tidus, what is your goal in life?
Tidus: ...eh?
Firion: You must have a goal that guides your path.
Firion: Like with Cecil, since you backed his decisions, he was able to move forward.
Firion: Thus, shouldn't I also back your own decisions in turn?
Tidus; Firion....
--------------------------
(So this takes place right after Jecht and Mateus fight and Tidus decides to leave)
Tidus: I feel bad telling you that I have to go it alone.
Firion: Don't worry about it. This is the story you've chosen.
Tidus: I'll go settle things with my old man.
Firion: Right, get going!
(So off Tidus goes)
Firion: A path for each of us....
Emperor: Your friends have all abandoned you, finally leaving you alone.
(Now, remember how Jecht was totally beat and limping after that fight? Yah, well Mateus is right as rain and looking fine so I think we all know who was the real winner)
Firion: The Emperor!
Firion: They only left to accomplish what they must.
Emperor: And, what exactly are you left to accomplish?
Firion: Without fail, I shall help bring an end to this war!
Emperor: You will end this war? That sounds like the bark of a collared dog to me.*
*(this metaphor is a little odd in Japanese so I replaced it with one that makes more sense in English)
Emperor: This man said that he plans to end this war.
(Yay! Ultimecia!)
Ultimecia: Then I will have to teach him otherwise. That to desire such a conclusion is nonsense.
(Crap, I have to fight her)
-------------------
Ultimecia: Should I tell you why it's nonsense?
Firion: What!?
Ultimecia: Because this war between the Gods has repeated itself many times over. Can you imagine the degree of power that would require?
Emperor: How tragic. As it is, the Crystals would be barely fragments of dreams.
Emperor: The grand endeavors of your friends have all the permanence of a bubble.*
*(done for poetic reasons. The word he uses means either bubble or nothing so I went with the metaphor)
Firion: I... will not let everyone's efforts be in vain.
Firion: We will obtain the Crystals and bring this war to an end....
Emperor: Is that the true purpose?
Firion: What do you....?
Emperor: That is why you are weak.
Emperor: Fighting on naught but the words of others, in the end you are simply Comsos' tool.
Firion: I am Cosmos' tool....?
---------------------------
Firion: Cosmos!
Cosmos: Cloud, Cecil, and Tidus have each safely obtained a Crystal.
Firion: What an accomplishment for them!
Cosmos: Yes, but we must each keep walking our paths towards our goal....
Firion: Our path's goal....
Cosmos: Have you lost sight of it?
Firion: I.... when my father passed away, and I had to fight my adoptive brother, I didn't really have a concrete objective.
Firion: I was only frantically trying to end that war.
Firion: The Emperor's words, about how I am a tool who doesn't understand anything... it is inevitable someone would say it.
(These three lines are some of my favorites because not only does it directly reference FFII, but it also points out one of the flaws in the storyline – that Firion and company really were treated and acted like tools of Wild Rose Rebellion at times)
Cosmos: No, you have your own symbol. Within your heart, there is a hope that you continue to hold on to.
Firion: My hope isn't something so noble. It's just a sort of vague, childish dream.
Cosmos: Let me hear what hopes for the future rest within your heart.
Firion: Wild roses.
Firion: A world where wild roses bloom freely, that is my dream.
Firion: A world blanketed with flowers where war has ended.
Firion: When what was lost can be overcome, and rain and storms are the only power. That is the world I wish to create.
Cosmos: What a wonderful dream.
Cosmos: That is your living hope. If you were fighting simply because you were a tool, then you would not possess such a dream.
Firion: Cosmos....
Firion: You are right. That is my own dream. And I will not let go of it.
Cosmos: I wish to also see that dream.
Firion: You will see it without fail.
------------------
Firion: (In that war, there were so many people who lost their lives)
Firion: (It could have been due to protecting friends. Or it could have been due to who they lent their power to.)
Firion: (But they all lost their lives.... and there are those who certainly would lose hope and simply grieve)
Firion: Whenever I see a wild rose, I simply smile. I will create a world built on that sense of peace.
(And yay for more FFII references!)
------------------
Firion: Now, let's go. For Cosmos' dream... and for the sake of my own dream!
-----------------
Emperor: The tool who fights without a goal.... what do you want?
Firion: I am not a tool. I am fighting for the sake of my dream!
Emperor: For the wild rose? Such a dream is far too trivial to risk one's life for.
Emperor: Sample the power you could never grasp.
(Oh noes! Firion is once again the dude in distress!)
Emperor: What now, will the dream come to an end?
(And it's the blondie brigade to the rescue!)
Cloud: This isn't the end yet!
Firion: You two!?
Cloud: Couldn't leave you alone too long.
Tidus: A friend's dream is our dream....
Tidus: We'll protect it together!
(And protecting commences!)
Emperor: Our time here is over.
(Knowing that he is outnumbered, Mateus retreats but not without some taunting)
Emperor: Come to my stronghold, Firion! Prove your determination to me!
Cloud: I think that Cecil, Terra, and the others will come here soon....
Tidus: Are you going to go alone?
Firion: I have to end this.
(And Cloud gives Firion his rose back, awww)
Firion: This is...
Cloud: I want to see the dream continue.
Tidus: Everyone will be waiting for you to return.
Firion: I'll get going then.
-------------------------------
(And now for some more random philosophical musings from Sephiroth and Garland)
Sephiroth: To cling to the same thing, to aim for the same thing...To allow anything to pull your strings, makes you a puppet.
Garland: And that is the cycle.
Sephiroth: And this light that comes to aid you, is intended to help me* realize my unknown truths?
*(This pronoun usage is interesting because he uses Ore, his sane pronoun, rather than Watashi, his insane pronoun.)
Garland: That is all beside the point. "The greater purpose" is before us.
---------------------
Firion: Even while they're waiting for me, my friends are supporting me.
Firion: I will finish this without fail!
------------------
Firion: Everything is cleared out now. I will follow the path we must walk!
-------------
Emperor: You came.
Firion: I will not be defeated by someone like you who treats people as his tools!
Emperor: Still clinging to that worthless dream, I see. I shall eradicate your illusions for you then.
Emperor: And that shall reduce you to a mere tool.
Firion: That is futile. For I share the same dreams as my friends.
Firion: When friends give their all, their dreams become immortal. Our hopes for the future cannot be erased!
Emperor: In that case.... then all of them must be snuffed out.
---------------
(Thorns and magical bombs quickly surround Firion)
Firion: What?
Firion: Dammit!
(And explode, leaving him wounded)
Emperor: Abandon your delusions and accept my rule instead.
(But then Firion's awesome magical weapons spring to life!)
Emperor: What!?
Firion: There is no meaning in power used only to hurt people.
(And he collects his weapons again with style!)
Firion: I will put my life on the line for my dream!
Emperor: What can an insect possibly do?
Firion: Believe in the future, transcend the present, that's all there is!
(I still love that line so much)
----------------
Emperor: This war cannot end. Your dream will collapse in time, and my rule shall become necessary!
(And Mateus retreats with his tail tucked between his legs and Firion finds his Crystal)
Firion: "This war may have only begun."
Firion: "But I will keep dreaming."
Firion: "A world where wild roses bloom...."
Firion: "Together with them, it will come true."
Firion: That day is surely coming soon!
